The biggest event ever…

… on South African Soil.

fifaYes, I am talking about the FIFA 2010 soccer world cup that kicks off in less than 70 hours in Johannesburg, South Africa.

It almost feels unreal to realize that it IS going to happen.  The announcement on 15 May 2004, that South Africa is to host the next World Cup in 2010, made me so proud but also filled me with fear that we are not going to be up to it.

BUT  for Danny Jordaan there was no fear in the announcement.  His journey began 10 years prior to the announcement when he started working on SA’s first bid for the 2006 World Cup.  Although we’ve lost that bid in 2000 to Germany by one vote, he did not give up and started again only to taste the reward of his beliefs and hard work in 2004.

Today, 2216 days after the announcement Jordaan’s dream is finally coming to fruition as we are looking forward to the kick off on Friday the 11th

Are you also proud?  Did everything that goes with the preparations etcetera also surpass your wildest expectations?

Yes?

But you know what.  It did not happen overnight.  It took years of pre-planning to get the bid and it took more than 6 years of planning, dedication and hard work after the bid for this majestic dream to come true.

Starting your own virtual assistant business works the same.  You might not reap results overnight, but if you have a dream you’re halfway there.   The secret is to belief in your dream, to do everything in you power (pre-planning) to make your dream come true (founding your business) and then act on the planning to reap the rewards of the Biggest Event Ever you’ve dreamed about.

When Danny Jordaan was asked in 2004 how excited he was about the World Cup he said:  “Excitement is something that lasts for 90 minutes in football.  This is an engagement that lasts five years.”    Use these words to build your business and surpass your wildest expectations.

4 Ways to….Stretch Your Pay Check

money_stretchPricing your services correctly will help you stretch your pay check.

According to Wikipedia “price is the quantity of payment or compensation for something.”

In Virtual Assistant terms, I would like to rephrase it to “price is the quantity of payment or compensation a client is willing to pay for the services delivered by a Virtual Assistant.”

Set Your Price Like a Pro  and STRECH that pay cheque

Although it is important to determine your hourly rate upfront, I firmly believe that you should evaluate each request for services and each client on merit and set your price accordingly.

The easiest way to evaluate a request is to: Read more »

The SMART Way to Keep New Year’s Resolutions

It’s not exactly breaking news that many Virtual Assistants fail to keep their New Year’s resolutions. But should that stop us from promising ourselves to get better each year? Of course not!

With January already good on its way … I’m wondering, how many of you have kept your New Year’s resolutions so far?

I must admit that I’ve already had a few mishaps on some of my personal ones – such as keeping a lid on my food intake. But then again – losing weight is one of the most broken New Year’s Resolutions ever.

new years resolutionsSo, what is the magic recipe it one wants to keep a New Year’s resolution

If you listen to the gurus, they will tell you that New Year’s resolutions do not last and that you rather need to set goals. But really, it does not matter how you look at it, it is in actual fact pretty much the same thing. The gurus will also tell you to set SMART goals – to make it specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely – and this usually works for most successful business people.

So, if you take this SMART principle of setting goals and shuffle it around, you can come up with another SMART way of keeping that important goals.

Today’s Tips for Tomorrow’s Success

Wow, thiSA 2010s year flew by and everyone is running around, wrapping up, reviewing and planning for the year ahead…

… and South Africa is ‘kicking the ball’ and ‘blowing the vuvuzela’ to get everything in order for the Soccer World Cup.

Francis and I are also having our fair share of  “year-end running around” sessions to get our business planning in place before the family arrive for a well deserve bi-annual Christmas get-together.

Wednesday night when waiting to attend a VA-networking webinar at 01h00 (yes at night and it was well worth the wait!), I thought about “today” and wondered whether “today still matters” to us.  Sometimes we are so busy dwelling in the past (wrapping up) and thinking about the future (planning) that the today of our lives passes us by without any notice.

Having said that, I am the first to admit that the way you live today have an enormous impact on your tomorrow and that today’s actions lead to tomorrow’s successes or failures.

Preparation today, gives you confidence for tomorrow

Becoming a Virtual Assistant | 7 Virtual Assistant Tips

Becoming a Virtual Assistant is almost as diverse as the colours of a beautiful sunset.

Watching a beautiful sunset the other day I couldn’t help thinking about the wonder and diversity of colour.  Yellow, orange, pink, Virtual Assistant Tipsblue … actually numerous colours danced in synergy on the horizon to give pleasure to its spectators and I was really thankful that sunsets are not only different shades of grey and white and that they differ from day to day.

While sitting in astonishment, virtual assistant marketing crossed my mind.  Wouldn’t it be wonderful to adopt a different approach when doing business?  What if the virtual admin assistant business approach has a sunset effect on its clients?  Will it make a difference?
